Designed as a long-term Lake Michigan residence, this home is organized around a 100-foot tunnel carved through the site’s natural dune, connecting the inland approach to the waterfront. The tunnel serves as both circulation and infrastructure, supporting daily use, beach access, and long-term durability. Above, the house is layered into multiple living levels that respond to the site’s sharp elevation change while maximizing lakeside views. The architecture draws from Dutch Colonial precedent, expressed through gambrel roof forms and traditional detailing, while accommodating a large, multi-generational program. Careful coordination of structure, circulation, and topography allows the home to feel grounded in the landscape while functioning as a permanent family residence.
